December is also a special time to explore the centre of Milan. Christmas lights, decorated streets and seasonal markets create a festive atmosphere around the Duomo and the main shopping districts.

The celebrations around Sant’Ambrogio, Milan’s patron saint, traditionally include the Oh Bej! Oh Bej! fair near Castello Sforzesco. On 7 December, the opening night of the Teatro alla Scala season is another important date in the city’s cultural calendar.

Visitors staying until the end of the month can also enjoy Christmas shopping, museums, restaurants and New Year’s Eve in Milan.
